MSD Dive Trip Philosophy

MSD has been providing domestic and international group dive travel opportunities since the 60's. Our philosophy encompasses the following ideals:

  • On each of our trips we provide incredible diving adventures for all levels of diving experience
  • We use only safe, reliable and well-proven local dive operators
  • We strictly adhere to an environmentally-friendly philosophy when  interacting with the aquatic realm.
  • We strongly encourage a culturally inquisitive and accepting attitude while top-side. Unless there are no alternatives, we seldom organize trips to all-inclusive resorts or live-aboards thus enabling local interaction.

Don't let the title of the trip or photo to the right give you the wrong impression. Many of our active local divers are also motorcyle enthusiasts, and want to make the most of our short riding season. On this trip, you can drive yourself or carpool if you don't have a bike. We will have a "support vehichle" for the gear of those who are riding bikes. You are able to ride/follow us if you want or just get yourself to St. Ignace by 7:00 am on August 4th. For those who would like to come along with us, we will be leaving Minnesota  School of Diving (Brainerd Location) at 11:00 am on Wednesday August 2nd - Drive to Hurley WI getting in around 4:30pm (218 miles). We will have planned stops every 75 miles or so for those who need a bathroom/food/gas break. After spending the night in Hurley, we will depart at 9:00 am and drive the remaining 305 miles to St. Ignace which will be putting us there around 5:30 pm (Eastern time zone).

After some incredible dives on the Maitland, Eber Ward, William Young and the Sandusky our dive trip will have unfortunately come to an end. That doesn't mean that the fun has to stop, we still have the drive back! We will be departing St. Ignace at 9:00 am on Sunday August 6th and ride as far as the group decides (Munising, Ashland, Hurley, Duluth etc.) where we will spend another enjoyable evening. We will return to Brainerd sometime on Monday afternoon. Obviously, those who need to return earlier can leave Saturday after the dives (lodging arrangements would need to be altered), or could make the entire journey on Sunday.
