Stairway to Hell  (Alstead)

One of our favorites.  This site really shows some of the best of what the Cuyuna State Recreational Area has to offer.  Named after an abandoned submerged set of stairs which start in about 45 feet of water and continue down to 90 feet.  In 2004 someone left a plastic skull on the bottom step which adds an eerie touch that enhances the sites name.

Along with the stairs, divers will enjoy a new addition to this site.  In 2003 local divers discovered a light blue Dodge Shadow  which many find fun to explore.  However what brings the divers back time and again to this site, are the great submerged trees.  Swimming though these underwater forest is truly a thrill.  This site is also a  haven for fish, near the beaver cuttings divers can stop for a few minutes and witness several hundred sun fish darting around.  Alstead also has its fair share of northerns and bass that you are sure to encounter.

Entrance   Two foot drop from gearing up area to the water line.  Also the underwater slope is steep and has several large boulders, be cautious not to trip.
  Visibility   20-40 feet
Latest Reported Conditions   5/18/06      Local divers reported 30 feet of visibility
