Campground  (Portsmouth)

Located inside the State Campground this is the only site in the Cuyuna State Recreational Area that requires a Minnesota State Park sticker to drive to the site.  If you don't already have one, a vehicle pass can be purchased either at the DNR headquarters in Ironton or at the campground entrance.

The beach at the camp ground is a wonderful dive.  Shallow you are sure to see lots of fish and many forgotten pieces of mining paraphernalia left behind.  These barrels and coils of wires along with the foundation to an old building are make this site quite unique.

Deeper you will find the opening to a cement culvert that once was used to move ore carts from one location to another.  The tunnels opposite opening is located about 50 feet away in about 55 feet of water.  Divers are often tempted to swim thought however SILTING OUT IS VERY EASY!  This will immediately lead to a zero visibility situation.  With boards running along the bottom and mounting for light features on the top entanglement is possible!  Observe this from the outside only!

Entrance   Short walk from parking area.  Nice gear up area on the beach.
  Visibility   20-40 feet
