Gettin' the Shaft  (Huntington)

Gettin' the Shaft should be on you must see list.  This site was named after the impressive shaft located just off the entrance to this site.  This is the best preserved mine shaft in the pits.  The old wood supports around the outside are very impressive.  Its common to see lots of small pan fish in this area.  Do not enter the shaft, it is not stable.  Observe this from the outside only.

Also from this site you can get to a nice collection of beaver cuttings.  Fish life around these cuttings is very impressive.

The roads to this site are a bit difficult and can be flooded.  We strongly recommend that you have the Region III map.  Also contact us at the Minnesota School of Diving so find out about road conditions.
